In collaboration with James B. Garrison AIA, this residential design-build project is one of SunPower Builders’ favorites in EcoLogical design.  Sited in an outcropping of rocks, this is a super-insulated solar house that features a low-temperature thermo-siphoning collector system to heat the interior space. This system incorporates a large water storage system in the joist space of the first floor.

For this project, recycled pickle jars store solar-heated water to create convective air for space heating. Additionally, the curved roofs, tall interior ceilings and clerestory windows create excellent day lighting opportunities and provide natural air circulation while simulating the rooflines of traditional Lancaster county dairy barns.
