Sunpower Builders worked with Re:Vision Architects to create a 'beautiful and functional model' for the center's visitors. The goal was to demonstrate to visitors a variety of renewable energy principles and raise awareness of renewable energy options for heating, cooling and lighting.

The design utilizes passive solar techniques such as the bank of south facing windows to maximize the heat from the winter sun and louvers which shade the windows from the summer sun. There is thermal mass to store residual heat in the building and the majority of the windows are low E Argon filled for superior energy performance. Even the landscaping consists of deciduous trees on the south side to provide shade in the summer and sun in the winter.  The interior of this 2,000 square foot educational space remains comfortable year round with only the occasional wood-stove fire.
